About

At the Summit on Space Cooling Research Needs and Opportunities in Mexico, held on February 2018, participants from government, industry and the research community agreed on the need to establish a Community of Practice (CoP) around cooling in Mexico. The Mexico Cooling Communities of Practice website, developed by Berkeley Lab with the endorsement from Mexico’s National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy (CONUEE), intends to launch and grow this Community of Practice while creating a platform to facilitate R&D, program implementation and financing across sectors, areas and organizations working to lower energy consumption for space cooling in Mexico.

Berkeley Lab www.lbl.gov is a world-class research institution that is part of the national laboratory system supported by the U.S. Department of Energy through its Office of Science. It is managed by the University of California (UC) and is charged with conducting unclassified research across a wide range of scientific disciplines. Thirteen Nobel Prizes and 70 members of the National Academy of Sciences are associated with Berkeley Lab.

Mexico’s National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy (CONUEE)

The National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy (CONUEE) www.gob.mx/conuee is a decentralized administrative body of the Energy Secretariat, which was created through the Law for the Sustainable Use of Energy published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 28. November 2008, and its main objective is to promote energy efficiency and serve as a technical body in terms of sustainable use of energy.

Berkeley Lab’s Mexico Energy Initiative (MEI)

Building on a track record of high-impact, clean energy research and policy collaboration with China, India and Mexico, Berkeley Lab launched the Mexico Energy Initiative (MEI) mexico.lbl.gov in 2016 with the mission to support Mexico’s transition to a clean energy future by working in partnership with key Mexican policy makers, scientists and institutions. Since then, MEI has led initiatives to develop clean energy research collaborations between Mexican institutions and the University of California system.
