Under USAID’s Efficiency for Development Program, Berkeley Lab and partner Xinampa.Inc   are collaborating with the State of Sonora’s Commission for Ecology and Sustainable Development (CEDES) in a first-of-its-kind measurement of air conditioner usage in Mexican households located in the hot-and-dry region.  Measurement of air conditioner systems in twenty households in Hermosillo, Sonora began in June 2019 and continued through October 2019 in order to cover almost all of the cooling season.  Data was captured for power consumption of the air conditioner as well as internal ambient temperature at 15-second intervals. This information will provide valuable consumption baselines for additional work on efficient cooling strategies in Sonora and other regions of the country with similar climate characteristics.
